It’s that time of the show where we ask, What’s happening in Vulcan Alberta Canada.
Regional 4-H members from across the Calgary region—representing the Wheatland, Rockyview, Kneehill, Foothills, and Mountainview districts—are gathering at Olds College’s Werklund Agriculture and Technology Centre this Saturday for the annual regional public speaking event. Intermediate and senior competitors who placed first or second in earlier rounds will deliver speeches starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by presentations at 1:30 p.m. Beyond building essential lifelong communication skills, the competition carries high stakes: senior participants who perform top in their category will earn a spot to advance to the provincial finals.

The Vulcan and District Historical Society Museum and Archives in Southern Alberta is running a community contest to guess the contents of a sealed 1958 wooden crate before its official reveal on May 15. Discovered in an old hospital ambulance bay alongside medical supplies and canteens, the trunk-sized, heavy box is marked with the words “Civil Defence.” While local guesses range from medical kits and ammunition to creative wild cards, the mystery crate is touring local venues—including schools and a bank—to build anticipation for the museum’s seasonal opening.
Contents of 70-year-old box will be opened in two weeks | Calgary Herald
