Interview: Dr. Mohamed Noor

Dr. Noor is a professor of biology at Duke University, as well as an Associate of the Duke Initiative for Science and Society and a Biology Bass Fellow at the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences . His research involves seeking answers to questions like “What genetic changes contribute to the formation of new species?” and “How does the process of genetic recombination affect both species formation and molecular evolution?”

He hosts the YouTube channel “BioTrekkie Explains!,” and often has a very special Trek co-host – Jayne Brooke (“Star Trek: Discovery’s” Admiral Katrina Cornwell).  In addition, much like fellow friend of the show Dr. Erin Macdonald, Dr. Noor serves as an occasional science consultant for the Star Trek universe.

Dr. Noor is the author of the book, Live Long and Evolve: What Star Trek Can Teach Us about Evolution, Genetics, and Life on Other Worlds
